1. Walk us through the process of turning your blog on first-time home ownership into a successful design and build firm — how did that happen?My husband and I were creative and completely hands on with our first home. I would do a bunch of DIY projects and “Ikea Hacks” and blog all about them.

 1. What inspired your love of design and how did you get your start in the business?My love of design has honestly always been within and happened to present itself after high school when I went to design school to further my inspiration for interiors.

1. How did you get your start in design? Just like anyone who's naturally interested in design and spaces, it started when I was young. I would just think of how I could make the spaces surrounding me better. Growing up I had an inclination towards art, but I also liked problem solving.

1. How did you get started in design?

1. You two met while studying Interior Architecture and Design at the Academy of Art University (AAU) in San Francisco.

1. How did you get started in design? A total accident as I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Painting and realized I had no job skills whatsoever.

1. How did you each get into the design world?  Julie: I earned a degree in design, and went to work at a large architectural firm (doing commercial interiors) in NYC upon graduation.

1. You took a leap of faith to launch TRIO in 1999 — where were you at in your life that prompted you to make a risky move and pursue your dream?I was at a point in my life, where nothing seemed to be coming together, both professionally or personally.
