Architect Jason Kerwin of OKB Architects creates a streamlined one-story home in Piedmont for a family that loves to entertain.
After having two boys in quick succession, John Paul Peterson and his wife Lisa realized that they’d need more space than their townhouse in San Francisco’s Mission afforded them. The house they found in Piedmont just outside of the city had great bones. Situated on a hillside, the three bedroom home also had a beautiful patio out and a generous stairway. But, it lacked flow: the exit to the backyard was awkward, the rooms were small and cramped, and there was an elevator. They enlisted the help of architect Jason Kerwin who flew up from Los Angeles to see the property. The handrail, installed by the previous owner, is by San Francisco-based artist Jim Jennings.
