Benjamin Dhong
“He is like a straight, British Anderson Cooper who drives an Aston Martin,” says interior designer Benjamin Dhong describing his San Francisco, Marina-dwelling client. Dhong was hired to bring a blend of modernity and elegance to the man’s new three-story townhouse. The designer describes the assignment as “a master class in problem solving.” Dhong met the challenge with a unique blend of styles and materials, and the result is an interior that makes the grade.
“The layout of the home makes it necessary to pass through the dining room many times a day, like a hallway,” says Dhong. “I wanted to make it impactful, whether a person was walking through or sitting down to a meal.” Because it’s an interior room, the designer selected a glimmering wallpaper to reflect light. The curvy lines of the wall-mounted candelabra—scored at Past Perfect for a mere $200—make for an electric contrast. The rug is made from two pieces of solid-colored carpet, cut and seamed together on a diagonal.
