When Christy Callahan and her husband, Jonathan Glickman, moved in to their Hancock Park home, the first thing Callahan did was haul in dozens of paint cans filled with her favorite vibrant hues—from deep turquoise to bright persimmon to sky blue—to transform the taupe rooms into spaces filled with kaleidoscopic color. The resulting design mirrors the vibrant personalities of the cinematic couple; she studied filmmaking and worked as a television writer and an executive at Disney, while her husband, Jonathan, is the president of MGM. The duo collaborated with up-and-coming designer Max Gough to add dramatic accents and make their home both bold and beautiful.
When it came to actually decorating their home, Callahan wasn’t looking to go it alone. She was on the hunt for a designer who was willing to collaborate with her every step of the way, as opposed to a staunch director with an unwavering vision. For her family’s previous home, she had hired an established firm, and although she adored the finished product and learned plenty by watching the designers work, this time she wanted to get her hands dirty. “I wanted an equal partner,” says Callahan, who found one in up-and-coming designer Max Gough. Callahan wanted something with "lots of different sitting areas and a salon-like feel." To enhance the natural light, Gough went with sheer curtains, used metallic paint on the ceiling and covered one wall in an antiqued mirror. “Now the room just glows,” says Gough.
